Tents flooded, muddy water everywhere – but no fresh water to drink

Life in Gaza may be cruel, but Palestinians in the north are also having to endure one of the cruelest winters in history

Heavy rain lashes down onto already flooded tents – destroying what is left of their belongings. Yet despite the abundance of water, there is none to drink.

Muddy brown rainwater soaks into every orifice of life, but clean, safe drinking water is hard to come by.

The freshwater system has been destroyed by the occupation and while tent dwellers struggle to siphon water out, they struggle to get freshwater in.

Their only supply comes from truckloads of portable water – which, of course, come at a price. Each water truck costs $400 and carries 6,000 litres of water.

This benefits around 180-200 families but only provides water for three days.

“These are private trucks belonging to companies,” explains Ahmed Hamada, who runs the Hamada Charity Team.

“We book the truck a day in advance and pay them so that we can bring water to the people.”

Ahmed and the team are constantly trying to raise the money for more water.

But that’s not all. With the rainfall destroying tents left, right and centre, they have also launched a tent appeal.

“I would like to make a heartfelt appeal to everyone who cares about social responsibility and humanitarianism,” says Ahmed.

“I am reaching out to you to ask for your donations of tents to support a family facing immense challenges.

“They are burdened with the responsibility of caring for orphaned children.

“These children have lost one or both parents and are in dire need of both material and spiritual support.

“The tents we are requesting will help this family meet the children’s basic needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, and upbringing.

“Each tent can be a source of inspiration and an opportunity for a better life for these children.”

How to contribute

1. **Donate Tents:** Every tent makes a significant difference in the lives of these children. You can donate through the various donation methods available via the donation link.

2. **Encouragement and Support:** You can offer emotional support to the children and their families through visits or encouraging messages. This will boost their morale and make them feel loved and cared for.

“We hope you will play your part in helping these orphaned children who are in desperate need of assistance.

“Every donation, big or small, is a powerful step towards improving their lives.”

Welcome to Phone Calls from Palestine, where I share the experiences of my Palestinian friends as part of my ongoing campaign to raise money to get aid into Gaza, the West Bank and diaspora and help stop the genocide.

This blog is dedicated to amplifying the voices of our Palestinian brothers and sisters by sharing their stories. I hope it fosters understanding, empathy, and connection across borders through the shared experience of humanity.

From heart-warming tales to gripping narratives, this blog is designed to bring you closer to the beautiful people of Palestine.

These are people I have connected with, conversed with, gotten to know and am now trying to support.

This is not charity, this is solidarity.
